Hip Hop music is perhaps one of the most selfish outgrowths of an overly individualistic society. Rappers talk about their cars, firearms, bling, and how important it is to be number one. Luckily, international superstars LIL JPG and MC Rewind have transcended to the a new theatre: social responsibility.
Their latest track, Oil Be Spillin, is an enlightened look into unchecked corporate greed and environmental duty. As a surrogate to today’s youth, LIL JPG and MC Rewind are standing up to one of mankind’s greatest injustices.
You can find Oil Be Spillin in stores now on their latest album Crunk as a Skunk.
Speaking from personal experience, being a musician in a small town can be pretty crap. You can only get so big until you seem to hit a wall, where your only options of growth become touring out of town or getting signed to a professional label or promoter.
In this short documentary, which was made for a broadcast journalism class, local band Silas Reed n’ the Books tells us what it’s like to be ‘stuck in the middle’.
If you like what you hear, be sure to check out Silas’ music on his MySpace at:
I’m visiting William in Baltimore this weekend, so that means a lot of driving listening the radio. And by a lot of radio, I mean Top 40. And by Top 40 I mean about 8 songs. Over and over again. For 900 miles.
So I figured I’d condense the entire awful experience into a “Summer Hits” mix. With one oldskool jam thrown in for good measure. Here’s the songs I mixed:
California Gurls (Katy Perry)
Rock That Body (Black Eyed Peas)
Baby (Justin Beiber)
Hello Seattle (Owl City)
Break Your Heart (Taio Cruz)
Walking on Broken Glass (Annie Lennox)
My First Kiss (3OH!3)
Young Forever (Jay-Z)
I’m getting BHS back on track now, and plan to get a new mix up every week. Hit up the forums if you have any thoughts.
Yeah, so things have been sorta slow here at BHS as of late. But at least those of you subscribed to the feed have been getting new content every now and then.
Today we’ve got a new episode of BDPE I posted a few weeks ago, and I’ll be getting more stuff in the pipe soon.
On this week’s show Apple and Adobe continue their unending feud about the future of the mobile web, William gives us a quick look at the iPad, we take a giant dump on Final Fantasy 13’s terrible plot, level design, and progression issues.
Finally, if you’d like to discuss this week’s episode, hit us up on the forums.
